I want to bring in the new year by honoring a man who says a single word.
And even then, you can barely hear him.
His character’s name is Meechie. He’s the dumber twin. He’s just trying catch up. Trying to understand. Filled with sunny optimism.
Why is this so satisfying to me? The actor is authentically listening. And simply being.
I teach something called authentic comedy – we’re all doing our best with what we know. And the more we try without knowing, well, that’s what authentic comedy is all about.
We rarely see such an honest performance in advertising. It’s like a little gem of perfection. I make up a whole story about Meechie. Always the slower brother, he lets his twin do all the talking. He loves his smarter twin. He waits for him to speak for the both of them. He’s simple. He loves dogs. He sees joy in little things like getting a Whopper from his brother.
He just makes me happy. He looks like a good dog. He’s just so excited and open to the possibilities of getting a Whopper. And so proud of his brother for including him.
All of this from a single word.
